Introduction

In 2011, Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc. opened its European sale, distribution, calibration and repair center. Located in Kempten, Germany, Sea-Bird GmbH offers our European customers the same high-quality sales, repair and calibration services that are performed at Sea-Bird Electronics’ headquarters facility in Bellevue, Washington, USA.   In this capacity, the center offers promotion, sale and service in supporting SBE existing and future end customers and other SBE distributors.

The dedicated facilities at our European center replicate the quality and level of accuracy for sale and post-sale (calibration) that our customers have come to expect.  A full range of parts and supplies are stocked for immediate sales as well as repair and refurbishment of customer-owned equipment. A dedicated staff of technical support and calibration technicians was extensively trained at the Sea-Bird factory and receives regular ongoing training as the European center expands its capabilities. In addition, USA-based Sea-Bird staff rotate through the European center on a regular basis to ensure the timely and accurate completion of service work.

While being in constant contact with the main Sea-Bird factory for technical consultation, Sea-Bird GmbH handles all customer inquiries pertaining to sales orders of its products in stock as well as calibration and repair work being performed at its facility. Invoices are issued by and payments are made to Sea-Bird GmbH in Euros. In addition, the European center can handle a wide range of technical support questions on Sea-Bird’s current product line.

Sea-Bird GmbH provides Sea-Bird’s European customers with timely, cost-effective distribution of its product, and repair and calibration services without the extra overhead of customs and export/import requirements. However, Sea-Bird’s European customers always have the option of returning their equipment to the Bellevue, WA, USA factory for repair and calibration should they choose to.

Given the broad range of products and historical evolution of the Sea-Bird product line, the European facility will add support for products in stages starting on 1 November 2011 and continuing through 2017:

To ensure timely service work, customers are encouraged to contact Sea-Bird GmbH directly before sending equipment in for service or calibration. This initial contact will verify whether Sea-Bird GmbH supports the equipment that the customer wishes to have serviced.
Note: European customers can send the entire instrument package, including third-party auxiliary sensors, for servicing. We can troubleshoot the package at Sea-Bird Europe for our standard charges. If we determine that a third party sensor needs to be serviced, we will coordinate the shipment of the sensor to the manufacturer. All charges, including charges from the third party manufacturer, will be combined in one invoice in Euros.

Scheduling, and Shipping Instruments

Contact Sea-Bird GmbH for service / calibration scheduling, and to obtain a Returned Materials Authorization (RMA) number before shipping the instrument. Fill out a Service Request Form, and return it with the instrument.
